PROJECT SUMMARY

The Morongo Casino pulled out all the stops to develop an elaborate porte-cochère which would influence their logo and resemble the succulent foliage of the local desert landscape.  The entrance canopy, which is easily visible from the 10 freeway, is constructed of a geodesic grid shell with multiple panel segments each in the shape of a toroid.  The rounded shape of the toroid allows the fabric to hold snug to the frame despite the violent winds that are generated in the high deserts just north of the casino.  All the working points of the fabric are attached to the frame with turnbuckles, so any creep in the fabric can be adjusted to keep the membrane under tension for the duration of the 15 year warranty.
