PROJECT SUMMARY

Originally designed to be constructed with PTFE, the architects decided that the colorful possibilities of PVC was more important than longevity. The fabric panels were one of the first elements to be completed at the Nevada Department of Transportation Visitor’s Center (near Searchlight, NV).

Because of the 3D stability of the panels’ anticlastic shape, the deflections of the membranes were virtually unnoticeable even when the contractor shut down the job site due to windy conditions. The open membrane plates lightened the weight and the looks of the fabric architecture. The project was completed in November of 2011.
